    Stephanie still …
    Stephanie still doing the thing in her 50′s. Still sounds as good as this track, “Home”. Another very underrated singer. Also very classy. Formerly married to former member of Shalamar, Jeffery Daniels.

    @androidtrunks2k1 …
    @androidtrunks2k1 Yeah, Kristin did a great job and brought back the love ppl felt for it when Steph first did it in 1975. Stephanie recorded at least three different versions of this song. Unfortunately, her original version from The Wiz is not on YouTube. It’s the one that Kristin recreated, same arrangements and everything.

    i’ve never heard …
    i’ve never heard this sing before til cheno sang it in glee… there is no doubt that this girl can sing… oh boy she can sing!!!!!! i think what glee did was it made the song more current…. and i think cheno gave justice to the song… she sang it pretty well…. especially the last note at the end…. not a lot of white girls can do that….

    Yes, Stephanie was …
    Yes, Stephanie was the first to put this song on the map in 1975, which is the version that everyone often tries to imitate. You can find it on the original cast recording of The Wiz (the play, not the movie) and see how Ashanti and Kristin Chenoweth got their inspiration. It sounds very different from this 1989 version.

  14. Stillheartdeep says:

    @sinakat – Kristin …
    @sinakat – Kristin still did a really nice job except for the last note but it bought a tear to my eye and made me come here looking for Stephanie.

  15. Stillheartdeep says:

    @rorohitch – I just …
    @rorohitch – I just did the exact same thing!!!

  16. akuma1993 says:

    @rorohitch just …
    @rorohitch just wanted to take the time to say that thought I am 16 I do understand EXACTLY what you mean. My generation is truly the last to know just how great those legends you listed are, not were because they will ALWAYS be that great.

    I also laughed at you Luther comment tho it is very true. There will always only be one Luther in the music industry.

    Stephanie Mills was …
    Stephanie Mills was in the Broadway production of The Wiz with the album coming out in 1975. The movie version with Diana and Michael was in 1978. She did NOT steal this song from Diana…… If any of the 3 ladies everyone is talking here (Stephanie, Diana, Kristin) “owns” this song it is Stephanie. If you have not heard it, give the original recording version a listen.

    I love Glee…. …
    I love Glee….Stephanie is the woman though!!!

  19. sinakat says:

    Watching Kristin …
    Watching Kristin try to sing this on Glee just made me go to Itunes and download the “real” version. Diana Ross version sounded horrible. I remember when I first saw Wiz, it was after Stephanie’s version came out and I thought Diana Ross sounded terrible. Also Stephanie did this song as a tribute to her friend who died of AIDS. He worked on The Wiz. He was the director or something.

  20. honeegrrl says:

    @thawyld1 Of course …
    @thawyld1 Of course not they don’t even compare, Stephani is the (excuse my french)

  21. honeegrrl says:

    A lot of people …
    A lot of people think that Stephanie recorded this song out of anger showing up Diana Ross but whatever her reasons are for recording this song, I’m glad she did it and nobody could sing this better than Stephanie. Diana sings it good but Stephanie blows it away. She just brings you chills.

  22. rorohitch says:

    I have to first of …
    I have to first of all thank Glee for reminding me about Stephanie Mills and as soon as I heard them sing this song I had to come here and listen to the only version that really counts. I feel every fiber of passion that is in her when she sings, she is such a blessing to mankind. Often times I listen to her and like Patti LaBelle, the O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, and Luther (no last name needed) and realize how poor we are as a nation now when it comes to music, we were so much more better then.

  23. Jadadaja02 says:

    Glee is a nice show …
    Glee is a nice show but Stephanie’s version of “Home” can not be touched. Rendition of Luther was pretty good…in fact, I liked it a lot!

  24. Jadadaja02 says:

    @sgrho You are so …
    @sgrho You are so right…the one artist no one can duplicate or properly imitate!

  25. LETMEINGUYS says:

    @thawyld1 …
    @thawyld1 absolutely the girls and guys i grew up listening to in the eighties were hungry for it, they had guts and raw talent…these new singers are weak as compared to singers like Stephanie Mills. Thats why there are so many remakes.
