Death of Ocean View Park (1979)
The demolition of a real-life amusement park in Norfolk, Virginia was excuse enough for made-for-television movie The Death of Ocean View Park. Factual footage of the park’s destruction is blended into a fictional plotline by screenwriters John Furia Jr. and Barry Oringer. Mike Connors, Diana Canova, Perry Lang, Caroline McWilliams and James Stephens are among a group of funfair revellers who attend OceanView Park on the Fourth of July. It isn’t long before Mother Nature puts on a real fireworks display-a devastating hurricane.

I got this confused …
I got this confused with Rollercoaster, which was also filmed at Ocean View Amusement Park. My school principal Mr. Wiggins sent letters home with us to inform our parents he had a speaking role (short black sailor). I got to see the explosives in action on my way home from summer school.

Great, great …
Great, great amusement park! I grew up riding the rollar coaster every Saturday. Too sad – I watched them make this movie, then they tore down the park. Now there are beach condos in it’s place. What a waste…

Believe it … or …
Believe it … or not, I am the last guy in… and in the last seat on the right.
I was the four on the rollercoaster, and one of the last four to climb down, with Fred Whoe and Ron Stein… and I did forget the woman’s name that was the female stunt woman.
If anyone knows how to buy the video… please let me know.
This was one of the best times of my life.

Oh how I remember …
Oh how I remember this like it was yesterday. Newport News, VA is my hometown so when the call came out for extras, I was on it. It was fun just walking around the park, acting like a patron, even if I was only on the screen for a second, I would not trade that experience, it was just the best job ever!
