I just want to understand a little bit better. Are our beliefs the same, or are there big differences? Are the views on salvation the same (Jesus is the eternal way to the Father)? I dont know very much about the Catholic faith and would like to better understand thank you!
please no negativity here, theres already enough on R&S already and just want the differences thanks!
I see that you have plenty of answers.
I have been emailing back and forth with a very nice Catholic man. He seems different than the rest of Catholics in that he believes only in Jesus’ perfect pardon for salvation. My mom was a Catholic and was not at all like him; she had way different beliefs. I think it depends on how much the person is really searching for truth. Anyhow, we have been considering publishing our letters, so that Protestants and Catholics can better understand each others faith and talk about their differences in a decent God honoring way way.
Catholics want to work to get to heaven. That won’t get you there. You must be saved in Christ, and live for him. Good works alone wont get you anywhere. Where does it say in the Bible that you must do all the things Catholics do?

There are many differences between the Catholic Church and we are Christians and other Denominations. Too many to list here on this forum however if you go to http://www.ewtn.com they have a good Q&A section that can help you with many of your questions.

It’s like the difference between apples and fruit.
Catholicism is a type of Christianity and there are many others, notably Orthodoxy and Protestantism (many separate churches).

Catholics are Christians. There are many differences between Catholics and Protestants, but the common bond would obviously be our faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior.
Some differences would be:
1. Catholics recognize the Pope as the Successor of Saint Peter
2. Catholics believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist
There are many other differences as well. If you would like more information on the two points I highlighted, or if you have other questions about the Church, feel free to email me; the link is on my page.

People calling themselves Christians became popular in the last couple of years. The term Chieftains is what people called themselves before there was any organized Religion. Now some people act like it is a special group that one wants to be involved with. To me l call myself Christian because l do not involve myself with any Religion but read and study the Bible and even go to Bible study.
A good Christian would not be little or find fault with another Religion. We all believe in the same God even though he may be called by different names..

God’s work? Hardly!!
It must be the Devil and the Antichrist working together to divide, conquer and destroy christianity from the inside!!!

Catholics are under the christian movement. They are part of the first practising Christians in the world. The Catholic faith is based on the continuing of the priestly function. All the functions of the priest are a carry over from the Old testament. The levictus line has been continued for some unknown reason from the jews to the Gentiles.
In terms of repentance, you have to see a priest
The intermidiary between man and God is the priest
The one who can interpret the bible is left to the priest as a learned man
The priest is the one who has keys for you to enter heaven
The priest performs baptisms and comfirmations
The priest performs burial services and commits the bodies to the grave.
The priest acts as counsellor
The priests report to high order than them e.g bishop and archbishop
The archbishops are accountable to higher authority
The highest authority is the Pope
Non catholics are slightly different. The major difference is the evangelical or protestant movement. This movement does not believe in the continuation of the priestly functions. It is argued that when Christ came and died, he took up the priestly functions. He now becomes the mediator between God and man. To enter heaven, you need Christs salvation only. The way is now open between man and God, you can repent directly to God and be heard.

I think your question would be better phrase as "I have a question about the differences between Catholics and Protestants." Because Catholics ARE Christians.
A Catholic is a type of Christian, so is a Lutheran, so is a Baptist, so is a Methodist, so is an Episcopalian. But all those listed, and practically every OTHER kind (except Catholics) are called Protestants.

i can only speak as a Catholic….Cathoilcs ARE Christians see
without Jesus Christ, there would be no Church. This is absolutely necessary for Christ opened the heavens for US – they are a product of the salvation He offers.
however this isn’t a one time shot – Scriptures explain that Salvation is:
1) an ongoing process 1 Pt 1:6,9
2) something we work out Phil 2:12
3) something we grow into 1 Pt 2:1-2
4) NOT guaranteed by faith alone Jas 2:14,17,24 & Mt 7:21
5) not a single act of faith 1 Cor 15:1-2, Heb 6:4-6 & Mt 24:12-13
6) Salvation is NOT complete in this life 1 Pt 1:3-5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

the top 10 most common misconceptions of the Catholic Church are:
1. Catholics worship Mary. No, we pray to Mary for her intercession, just as you would ask a friend or family member to pray for you. The traditional “Hail Mary” prayer recited by Catholics is a mirror of the words spoken by the Angel Gabriel in the first chapter of Luke.
2. Catholics think works get them to heaven. No, we believe, as it says in the Book of James, that faith without works is empty. We further believe that we are saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus and that He paid the debt for our sins. Our good works show that our faith has merit.
3. Catholics worship the Pope. No, we believe that the Pope is a human being, capable of sin, just like all the rest of us. We do believe that he is the successor of St Peter on earth as it says in the Gospel of Matthew and that when he speaks from the Chair of Peter, on a matter of faith or morals, he speaks without error. As a matter of point, Pope Benedict has never done this.
4. Catholics pay to get their loved ones out of purgatory. No, we ask that masses be said for our dead loved ones just as St Paul reminds us to pray for the living and the dead. A small donation ($5) might be made to pay for the card that we then send to the family to let them know that a mass was said in honor of the deceased.
5. Catholics do not read the Bible. Yes, we do. John Paul II declared the year 2000, the Year of the Bible, and Catholics around the world read the entire Bible during that year. Virtually all Catholic Church’s have a bible study program. At every Sunday Mass, there are three readings from the Bible. Catholics are required to attend Sunday and thereby hear the Word of the God.
6. Catholics think the Sacraments get them to heaven. No, we believe that only the death and resurrection of Jesus get us to heaven. We believe the Sacraments, such as the Eucharist Jesus instituted at the Last Supper, give us grace to help us follow God’s will for us.
7. Catholics belong to a cult. No, our church has been around for 2000 years, much longer than any other Christian church. At more than one billion members, the Catholic Church is the single largest Christian denomination. Many people join and some (sadly) leave the Catholic Church every day of their own free will.
8. Catholics don’t baptize. Yes, we do and our Church started baptism. Whether a person is immersed or sprinkled is a man-made technicality. It cannot be believed that Jesus would condemn someone to hell for all eternity because of the rite of Baptism they received. There are countless historical Christian texts, of reliable authorship, that speak of sprinkling in the very early Christian Church.
9. Catholics are not Christians. Yes, we are and we profess with our lips and believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord, the Messiah, the Son of God come down from heaven to save men from their sins. We pray the Apostles Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus name is mentioned in some form more than 50 times at every Sunday mass. We strive to follow the two great commandments of Jesus to love God with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves.
10. Catholics have a different Bible. No, we have the Bible approved by the Universal Christian Church since the year 380. During the Protestant reformation several books were taken out of the Bible in the late 1400s. Martin Luther even took the Book of James and Revelation out of the Bible as well, before they were restored. The Catholic Bible has been the most consistent of all translations for more than 1600 years.
We believe (I believe) in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and

Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism leads to eternal torment in hell, because catholicism teaches works for salvation, and that is a false gospel of works (Galatians 1:6-9) that is against JESUS’S free gift of salvation!
And catholicism will not give you a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, which is what JESUS wants with you!
So, catholic people need to get away from catholicism, and instead, believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation!
It’s clear from the Book of Acts in the Bible that catholics didn’t even exist during the days of Acts. Catholicism didn’t exist for over 300 years after Jesus. And catholicism didn’t exist for over 200 years after the Bible was complete and compiled. Those in the Book of Acts are the first Christians, and they believed what would be called fundamentalist doctrine today. ANYONE can read the Book of Acts for themselves and see. Had catholicism existed during the time of Acts, the first Christians would have rejected catholicism completely.
Also there’s TONS of Christians who also completely rejected catholicism, long before Martin Luther was even born. Catholicism murdered millions and millions of Christians. :*(
So not only is it wrong for anyone to say that "catholics were the first Christians", but this blows away the catholic claim that "no churches existed other than the catholic church, until Martin Luther".
Every "pope" is a false prophet. And there is no "pope" in the Bible.
There were ALWAYS saved believers outside the catholic cult, who knew catholicism cannot save anyone.
Catholicism cannot save. Only believing in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, is what saves!
So, catholics need to get away from catholicism, and instead, to believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation!
Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much!
And the Trinity is true!
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!
