    Campbell would …
Campbell would never admit that he enjoyed it because he probably couldn’t stand just how close the writer’s are to achieving reality i.e that the script often mirrors what REALLY happens in the world of politics.
I paricularly enjoyed the scene where 2 days after a war council the UK minister had to deal with a collapsing wall in his constituency.
    Genius,

    It’s interesting …
It’s interesting that the latest series of the Thick of It showed a more human and idealistic side to the politicians. I wonder what the writers took from this interview.

    I totally agree with you.

    Haha “At lot less …

    Bollocks Tucker, sorry Campbell!

  5. projectcyclops says:

    The film is called …
The film is called In The Loop, you mean the series, The Thick of It.

  6. ch1mpanzeethat says:

    Underneath Tucker’s …
Underneath Tucker’s brutality is a heroic charm and wit that Campbell clearly could never possess.

It was funny watching Campbell try to put forward a case that The Thick of It/In the Loop isn’t funny, and even funnier watching him try and argue against the fact that modern politics is venal and crass. Campbell does have a legacy, but is Malcolm Tucker based on him? no chance. Try Machiavelli and you’re closer to Tucker.

If Blair had Tucker as his spin doctor, he’d still be PM.

    He does it briefly …
He does it briefly at about 8.30 abit late i’m affaid.

  8. captainbollocks says:

    I think Mark stuck …
I think Mark stuck to much ito his and didn’t have a plan B. He should have asked Cambell to anaylsis what it had in common in real life. Would have worked better. He won’t to impress Guardianisters too much and was fighting with one arm behind his back.

I think Mark is a good intreating guy but he wasn’t on top of his game.

“But not in front of…(thinks)…did I ever swear in front of George Bush?”

  13. ImperialUSA says:

    It’s pretty obvious …
It’s pretty obvious that you have a totally biased opinion here. I didn’t make an assessment as to whether Campbell is a good guy or not, I simply said that he destroyed the interviewer, which he obviously did.

  14. doosher says:

    Did he bollocks. He …
Did he bollocks. He came across as a twat. How dare he criticise the media when firstly he worked within it and was peddling the type of bullshit he is having a go at and secondly he’s responsible for feeding the newspapers crap to suit the political needs of his party.

It’s not just him, all PR people are scum and worse than the journalists you lot happily point fingers at from behind the safety of your stained keyboards.

  15. Clembo says:

    I’m a strong …
I’m a strong believer of “those who live in glass houses”. As such I think high profile journalists should be held to the same account as politicians when they get things wrong.

  16. Clembo says:

    That’s what I …
That’s what I thought, also, Mandelson had that fire in his eye that Capaldi maintains every second he is on camera.

  17. Mr100bills says:

    it was because they …
it was because they knew most people were at heart in love with tory low taxs, free market etc.
they were desperate to get onside with the tory press.

  18. bringmemybow says:

    I’m not fighting …
I’m not fighting pro Kermode, just ant Campbell, its all bravado, he is a liar. He knows exactly what to say and how to react to best serve his interests. That man is responisble for the demise of traditional politics in this country and the ushering in of a Tabloid-centric nation.

  19. Mr100bills says:

    hahaha rubbish he …
hahaha rubbish he just saw the 24 news and web and knew people dont watch lectures they get it from their yahoo when they check their emails.
i say again who out there has the balls to go into politics.
no they all go into media studies cushy jobs.

  20. Mr100bills says:

kermode face hahaha, campbell was right we all moan and groan, but do any of us have the balls to do anything like become a mp.
The media is a cushy little number .

    At Pit, well, no. …
At Pit, well, no. It’s a film review, not Question Time.

  23. SnorkyO says:

    Capaldi said it he …
Capaldi said it he is also partly based on Peter Mandelson

  24. Pittounikos says:

    In 1997 the Tories …
In 1997 the Tories died and New Labour had a giant mjority. Capbell is sipposed to be this all powerful spin maestro with a majority and no opposision. If true, why did Labr slavishly stick to Tory spending, speed up Thatcherism and suck up to the tabloid press. The Tories wr unelectable bak then. So what was Campbell afraid of? Iv never heard a decent explanation for this. Kermode should really ask Alastair Campbell these sorts of questions. Shouldnt he?

  25. mynameiscal says:

    Campbell’s argument …
Campbell’s argument that Kermode is cynical is hilarious, the spin doctors thrive on turning politics into a cynical game in which everything is spun to appear a certain way. BAH
