What are the western ethical views on gay marriage and same sex couples?

I am interested in what western ethics and philosophies contribute to the issue. If there is no direct response, then what are some speculations that we can make on the issue? How can we apply western views on the subject?

It depends on who you ask.

People living in the "west" do not all agree…

We all have different beliefs, there is not one consensus.

That is the beauty of living in a "western society"; you can believe what you want.
